Flightcontrol (iPhone)

Air Traffic Control chaos and madness for 59p – good times!

FlightControl starts easy

For all it’s flaws the iPhone has made some impact in the realm of mobile gaming.  Oh it’s no DS and never will be (though why Nintendo didn’t drop an accelerometer into the DSi is beyond me) and there’s a LOT of garbage on it.  Flightcontrol is one of the exceptions.

I ignored it for a while mostly because so many people wouldn’t STFU about it but board one evening and avoiding hanging up my washing I though I’d give it a punt for 59p.  Was a good punt too.  Very simple gameplay – Jets, light airplanes and helicopters enter your airspace and you simply use you finger to plot their path to the relevant landing strip.

FlightControl does not stay easy

Simples, no?  Well… no.  The chaos begins after you’ve landed your first seven or so aircraft and the warning klaxon of two craft getting too close starts to sound.  Thankfully even the largest of jumbo jets are capable or vomit-inducing passenger-terrifying handbreak turns mid-air.  Realism thy name is not Flightcontrol.  Nor should it be!  It’s a fun action puzzler that’s simple to play, simple to understand and keeps you on your toes.  An absolute bargain for 59p.
